Ideally I would like to get a degree in Mental Health Counseling, because of the academic focus on the mental health of an individual. From what I have seen social work programs are more focused on public systems and social justice. While an MSW is a well-known degree that offers the opportunity to do private counseling it seems that the degree doesn’t focus on private individual therapy. So, are there any reputable Social Work programs that attempt to bridge the gap?

I’m 21 years old and I do feel that I am mildly "retarded". How can I take tests to determine if I am indeed retarded. Because of it I’m not enjoying life at all. It’s always have been hard to for me to socialize ever since I was little. I feel lost and my mind goes blank when I’m involved in a conversation with other people. I always end up saying to the person who’s talking, "huh?" or "what did you say again"? I want to live a normal life like anyone else, but it’s so hard and frustrating. Some people tell me that I’m not that "slow" because if I was then I wouldn’t be able to recognize my feelings of discomfort and spacey feelings. Could anyone please help me? I’m begging! Thank You!
Recently I was at a party and got entirely too intoxicated… a fight broke out and I ended up in the middle of the woods, next to a quarry. The whole time leading up to there I was throwing up and totally incoherent I guess… a couple of my friends found me a while later and I threw up the rest of the night. Now my problem is it is three days later… and my mental focus still feels off. It’s hard to explain really, which is why I’m using this site… it’s kind of like I feel lost and I actually keep thinking I’m dead. I feel like I totally messed up and died and I just don’t realize it yet, as ridiculous as that sounds I know. However, I think maybe I’m just going back to the blackout by the cliff and trying to piece things together- and
Sometimes I can use religion. Running gives me focus. I have tried to meditate. Any other ideas? You know the focus I’m talking about total mental focus, like when you are in the zone.
yogayak.com The Ocean Sounding Breath is also known as Ujayii Breathing, Victory Breath or, for the cheeky yogi – the Darth Vader Breath. To create the proper “hah” sound, hold your hand up to your mouth and exhale as if trying to fog a mirror. Inhale the same way. Notice how you constrict the back of the throat to create the fog effect. Now close your mouth and do the same thing while breathing through the nose, creating the ‘ocean’ sound. Imagine that you are drinking your breath through the nose. You can do this breath during asana practice to bring more oxygen to the body, during meditation to increase mental focus, or anytime during the day that you find your concentration slipping. Duration 6 min Benefits: increases mental focus, builds heat in the body and promotes a sense of mindful calm. Contraindications: if you have asthma be careful with
I need to learn how to focus my mind. When I start doing stuff(like playing videogames) my mind wanders to other things, can’t concentrate one what I am currently doing. So is there any free ways to get mental focus?
I’m male, 25 old, ectomorph body type with classic ‘seer’ constitution. Sensitive to stress, stimulants, stomach gets upset/nervous easily etc.
Over the past 5 years, due to consistent work stresses and not enough play, I’ve become burn out and have developed many symptoms of hyperthyroidism and adrenal fatigue (sleep problems, overall depression, feeling drugged/weak/dopey and times, brain fog, hot body temp – sweat easily, lower than normal testosterone, DEHA, progesterone and erratic cortisol levels throughout the day).
In addition to lifestyle changes I’m making, I wish to get advice on supplements(s) that will help my body naturally restore itself. My preference is for things made from whole foods and herbs.
I’m currently just taking:
1 Multi Vitamin/Mineral (by ‘new chapter’)
1 Salmon Oil (1000mg)
2 B Complexes (by ‘megafoods’)
Extra Vit C
And I’ve begun drinking 1-2 cups of ginko tea daily and a lemon balm or peppermint tea in the evening.
I was diagnosed with Adult ADD. However, due to trying for another child, it was recommended that I not take the medication any longer. I am looking for some help & guidance to find some other "natural" remedies for increasing my mental focus. Of course I will check with my OB/GYN before staring any of them.
I do not seem to stay with one subject or activity until it is finished. I flit from one thing to another & never finish the first. When I was on the medication, it helped.
BTW, thank you for all of the information so far. I will research it all!

After suffering from some anxiety problems, don’t ask me how or why, but one day I opened then closed, left eye, right eye, back and forth real fast and something snapped. Almost seems like I trained my brain to continue on with that action even when both eyes are open. When I close my eyes, that back and forth from one eye to the other is going on in my head. Visual and mental focus is shot. I feel disconnected from the world because eye contact with others is hard now. Cant even really see myself when I look in the mirror. There is also movements throughtout my head and it hurts physically and mentally. Help!
