Nutrition or nourishment means supplying to the cells and body what is needed for sustaining life. Right nutrition is most essential for health.
Many of the common ailments of human beings are a result of improper nutrition. Our body needs constant supply of energy producing carbohydrates, fats, fiber, proteins, and water. It also needs vitamins and minerals for other bodily functions like maintaining the digestive system, neutralizing acidity and clearing toxins. When the body does not get these nutrients in optimal form and the right quantity, it falls ill.
Fresh vegetables and freshly cooked food provide most of the nutrients that are required by the body. Unfortunately, we do not take the pains of cooking fresh food but rely on microwave food and other frozen items which are readily available. This is because processed food is usually cheaper, lasts longer in your refrigerator and can be cooked within minutes by just putting it in the microwave oven.
The food processing industry has no doubt ensured that we get food which is hygienic and which can be stored for longer periods, but such food has been proven to be nutritionally inferior compared to fresh food. Techniques like drying, heating, salting, and separating alter the nutritional content of the food items.
Another important point is that food which is suitable for a child or a teenager is not suitable for a grown-up adult. With age, our body needs different proportions of micro- and macro-nutrients. But ignorance or habit prevents us from changing to a new diet and thus making us prone to several diseases, which can be quite easily avoided with the right nutrition.
It is important to refer to the nutritional guides and standards published by the government and implement them in our daily life.
Apart from that, it is also a good practice to consume nutritional supplements, which are designed to provide balanced nutrition to the body. These will take care of supplementing all the nutrients which are not made available to the body through the routine diet.
It is not enough to take just the one vitamin or mineral that the body is lacking in. Since, all nutrients work together in ways we may not know fully; it is advisable to consume the right mix of these supplements for best health.
The best nutritional supplements in the market offer a complete nutrition program for all age groups. This includes instructions on the right nutrients, the correct proportion, the optimal mix and the right form for consumption. I always believe that prevention is better than cure. Therefore, to prevent health problems, nutritional supplements are the right solution.
