…but clients like YOU make my job a pleasurable, fun passion. I told you what to do, you asked LOTS OF QUESTIONS and then listened carefully to what my answers. You were SERIOUS about your disciplined, daily approach; you actually APPLIED the lessons as instructed – in other words, when I told you to apply it to your JOB, you DID. And now, you’ve ascended to the mental level where gold rains down freely and easily. You’ve got REAL MENTAL DISCIPLINE. That’s all the thanks I need.
Very well explained. Mental focus is vital for what I do, if a person wants to stand out from the crowd.
I’ll be doing March 11th’s broadcast episode of “The Mental Power Hour” from the EVERETTE, WASHINGTON PUBLIC LIBRARY MAIN BRANCH on Hoyt Avenue. Anyone who wants to drop by and get Mental Fitness Training advice and guidance can just hang out until after the show and I’ll assist you.
No offence, but I was actually getting seriously frustrated watching this video. Though I do thank you for sharing the exercise, and I will be putting it at good use. I honestly don’t know why the video annoyed me so much, but I do appreciate the tip.
Staring at a Candle flame for as long as you can without blinking is a Yoga method, then you’re meditation becomes more effective.
Chanting AUUUUUUUUUUMMMMM while crossing both eyes upward, without straining reduces daydreaming.
BigCatGirl123 – You may have felt a sense of frustration because the video is not particularly “entertaining” so much as it is “informational.” We have grown so used to being entertained with video medium that something as logical, reasoning, serious, and, well, DULL as “STRAIGHT DETAILS” causes our Attention to want to be doing ANYTHING other than forcing our way through educational material. Then again, as you do your training, you may discover that frustration is much a habit, and if so…
…you may then notice that frustration, anxiety, worry, and other forms of mental self-interference often gets in the way of having a consistence sense of serenity and peace of mind. Take careful note as to how many things cause you to feel less than pleased. As a form of distraction born in the mind, and all such forms of distraction should be targeted for elimination. The more mastery you attain over internal emotional storms (especially the quick, small ‘bursts’), the better of you are.
@ANDROID697 – Using candles for meditative practice is not exclusively a Yoga approach. Personally, I find the practice irritating to my eyes, but know plenty of people who enjoy the technique. Nothing reduces daydreaming except the practice of keeping one’s Attention squarely in the room with one. One can train one’s Attention to be increasingly more obedient, such practice building ‘Mental Muscle’ to control Attention in ALL activities. Whether one uses a candle, an object resting…
…on a table before one, or a simple spot on a wall as an Attention target, the thing to know is that the TARGET DOES NOT GIVE POWER. EFFORT OF ATTENTION is the thing that provides the added power and skill. A person can choose to a million different ways to practice the control of Attention, so long as they actually control it purposefully and repeatedly. In fact, one can use every activity in one’s life to get fantastic, practical results.
Folks, do you realize you don’t need any “SPECIAL” magic technique to get these kinds of skills? In fact, if you were to simply sit in a chair and hold your attention in the room with you – REFUSING TO ALLOW YOUR ATTENTION TO WANDER or get swept up into forms of thought – you would BLOW past most human beings you know. It takes WORK, it takes EFFORT, and it takes COMMITMENT, but the power already exists in your brain – all you’ve got to do is resolve to overcome whatever barriers you find.
kewl
i’ll start doing it

Excellent! While you’re at it, test your AUDITORY working memory skills by deciding upon a certain SOUND to ‘imagine’ in your mind as though you are actually hearing it. Perhaps a musical note or a vowel sound like “O”. Hear that sound in your imagination and hold it for as long as you can under the same rules as this basic visualization exercise. If you lose the sound due to distraction, wandering attention, or interrupting thought, start over. Track how long you can do it. Build on that.
